Former Rockstar Games technical director Obbe Vermeij celebrated the 20th anniversary of GTA: San Andreas in his own way. In honor of the game's anniversary, he shared another little-known fact about the development.

According to him, the game was originally supposed to have three different maps. Due to the small memory capacity of the PlayStation 2, there was a risk that the number of models would become too much for the console. Therefore, the developers planned to place the cities on three different maps, as was the case in the first and second parts of the series. The player would be able to move between them using planes and trains.

In this way, Rockstar wanted to simplify the management of transport and weather, as well as keep gamers from visiting other locations prematurely. However, the team later held an additional meeting, involving technical specialists. As a result, the studio decided to make one map for GTA: San Andreas, despite the limitations of the PlayStation 2.

Yesterday, GTA: San Andreas turned 20 years old – in honor of this, we remembered how the game influenced the entire industry.
