In 1999, Rockstar Games and Rockstar North (then known as DMA Design), two years after the release of Grand Theft Auto, released GTA2. GTA2 is still the same GTA with a top-down view, only much better, with new features. There are now several competing factions in the game: Yakuza, Scientists, Looneys, Rednecks, Zaibatsu, Russian Mob and Hare Krishnas. Earn the respect of every faction and reach the top of the criminal world.

Today, after a long time, Grand Theft Auto fans will again be able to feel the spirit of the classics. And new players who haven’t played the first games will be able to experience the roots of the franchise. Absolutely free. GTA2 has been fully optimized for modern computers. The 353 megabyte archive includes an installation file, readme and a manual in PDF format.

This version of GTA2 differs from the original version of the game by supporting modern computers and modern Microsoft Windows operating systems. But, unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that GTA2 will run correctly on your computer. Therefore, you install and use this software at your own risk.

Please read this before downloading and installing the game:

  • After downloading GTA2, unzip the archive and double click on the GTA2.exe file
  • The installation will begin. Follow the on-screen instructions to select the directory where the game will be installed.
  • GTA2 will be installed on your computer, a shortcut will be added to the start menu at Start > Programs > Rockstar Games > GTA2
  • You must launch AutoDetect from the Programs menu before launching the game for the first time.
  • In AutoDetect, select your Rendering Engine. If your card supports 3D acceleration, then select "Direct3D". Otherwise, select DirectDraw or any other option that appears in the drop-down menu. If you are not sure about your choice, then select Direct3D (you can always change this option later).
  • Once you are finished, click on the Save button to save your selected settings. Now you can run GTA2! Simply select Start > Programs > Rockstar Games > GTA2 > GTA2.
  • If you are having problems with graphics/performance, then go to the OPTIONS menu, select VIDEO OPTIONS, reduce the screen resolution and other settings. Please note that the game requires DirectX 8.1 or higher.
