On October 26, 2025, Red Dead Redemption 2 officially turned seven years old. Despite the Western genre not being the most popular in gaming, Rockstar Games managed to captivate a massive audience and sell over 77 million copies worldwide.

When RDR2 launched on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One back in 2018, the internet was flooded with memes, videos, and screenshots showcasing its breathtakingly detailed open world — one that constantly amazed players with strange encounters, unpredictable events, and the impressive flexibility of its game engine. A ghost train, a lion hunt, a time traveler, a swamp ghost, and even a real vampire in Saint Denis — these are just a few examples of the game’s many mysteries that kept players exploring for years.

Alongside all that, Rockstar delivered intense shootouts, daring robberies, a trip to a tropical island, cinematic sequences, and a powerful, emotional story featuring four different endings. That last part alone earned Red Dead Redemption 2 a place among the narrative benchmarks that game writers continue to look up to.

Soon, Red Dead Redemption 2 might get a second wind — according to insiders, Rockstar is preparing a next-gen update for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. For many fans, it could be the perfect reason to once again don Arthur Morgan’s hat and ride into the sunset.

And now, seven years later — what would you like to say to your favorite game on its birthday?
