Leslie Benzies, who previously worked at Rockstar North and served as a producer on GTA 5, recently explained why his new game, MindsEye, ended up being shorter in terms of playtime than many anticipated.

As it turns out, the main story campaign of MindsEye is designed to be completed in around 20 hours. According to Benzies, this relatively short length is a deliberate choice, allowing players to experience the entire game in today’s world, where there are countless distractions and entertainment options competing for attention.

Benzies, who produced ten games in the Grand Theft Auto series, revealed that MindsEye is partly inspired by GTA. He explained that the shorter campaign was crafted to keep players engaged and deliver a rich, focused experience without unnecessary padding.

He also noted that the brief marketing campaign is due to Build A Rocket Boy being a new studio without the resources for a massive advertising push. On top of that, Benzies believes that a long wait between announcement and release can actually decrease player interest.

After launch, MindsEye will feature plenty of side content and creative tools that let players make their own material, keeping the game fresh and engaging with updates, new missions, and challenges. The game is set to release on June 10 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
