Insider and journalist Reece Reilly from Kiwi Talkz shared his thoughts on rumors regarding a potential release of GTA 6 on the Nintendo Switch 2. According to him, about two months ago he heard from a Rockstar India employee that the studio was supposedly discussing porting GTA 6 to the new Switch.
The source claimed this was allegedly related to Microsoft’s “weird strategy,” which could “kill Xbox” and negatively impact the game’s initial sales. Reilly admitted that he initially considered the source unreliable, but noted that some of Microsoft’s recent actions do raise questions.
In a subsequent post, the insider clarified that he does not believe these rumors and does not want to raise false expectations about a Switch 2 release. He listed several reasons why the source is unreliable:
The source had given him inaccurate information before.
It’s doubtful that an ordinary employee at Rockstar India would have access to high-level confidential information.
Technical limitations: the weak CPU of Switch 2 would make running GTA 6 extremely difficult.
The majority of Rockstar’s revenue will come from the PC version and the game’s online mode, so the company is not overly concerned about initial sales on other platforms and will “play the long game.”
Thus, despite the initial rumors, a GTA 6 release on Switch 2 remains highly unlikely, and the insider advises not to take these claims seriously.
Reminder: GTA 6 is set to release on May 26, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. No information about a PC version has been announced yet. Meanwhile, the co-founder and former head of Rockstar is confident the game will be excellent.
