Rockstar Games co-founder and lead writer of GTA and Red Dead Redemption, Dan Houser, appeared in a full live interview for the first time. The event took place at LA Comic Con and was streamed online for fans worldwide.
When asked about GTA 6, Houser admitted it will feel unusual to play a game he is no longer working on:
"I think it be a great privilege to have worked on something that big. I wrote the last 10 or 11 of them. I think world had enough GTA from me. They’re always a new story. It won’t be a story I wrote or a character set I developed but I think it will be exciting. The game will be great I’m sure."
In the same interview, Houser also recalled the launch of GTA 3. According to him, the press was initially skeptical, and publisher Take-Two didn’t even have enough funds to print discs fast enough — sales were growing much faster than expected.
What’s next? The interview showcased the first look at American Caper — Houser’s new IP in the format of a graphic novel, set to release in November. He described it as a dark story about “degenerate criminals” that could never be made into a GTA game.
In addition, two other projects are in development: the open-world comedy Absurdaverse and the dystopian tragedy A Better Paradise. Both are still in early stages, but Houser emphasized he’s excited to be creating something new again.
It was also revealed yesterday that Rockstar Games is preparing a new RP platform ahead of GTA 6’s launch.
