In a recent interview, Devolver Digital co-founder Nigel Lowrie described GTA 6 as a “AAAAA-tier” game. According to him, no other series can match GTA when it comes to sheer scale.

“I mean, there are AAA games and then there's AAAA games and I'd argue that Grand Theft Auto is potentially the AAAAA game; it's just bigger than anything else both in the scope and scale of the game and the kind of cultural impact that it has and the attention it demands,” Lowrie said, commenting on GTA 6’s influence on the industry.

It was revealed that Devolver Digital even considered shifting release dates for some of its titles to avoid competing with GTA 6’s launch, which was originally planned for 2025 (the game is now set for release on May 26, 2026). Lowrie noted that GTA 6 is so massive it “blinds” you when planning out a release calendar.

Devolver Digital is the publisher behind games like Cult of the Lamb, Shadow Warrior 3, Serious Sam 4, Katana Zero, and The Talos Principle 2.

Previously, Ubisoft claimed that its game Skull & Bones was “AAAA” quality. However, the project received mixed reviews from gamers after launch (with a 66% rating on Steam).
