Former Rockstar Games technical director Obbe Vermeij has shared his thoughts on GTA 6’s performance. According to him, while many players want 60 FPS on consoles, a 30 FPS cap might actually be the better choice for a game like this.

On his X page, Vermeij was asked why GTA 6 might not reach 60 FPS on standard consoles. He explained that it’s all about compromise: running at 30 FPS allows developers to render twice as many polygons as at 60 FPS. While high frame rates are crucial for competitive shooters, in a game like GTA—where the focus is on graphics and world detail—opting for 30 FPS could make more sense.

Interestingly, there have been rumors that GTA 6 will support 60 FPS on the more powerful PS5 Pro, which is a step up from the base console.

For reference, GTA 6 is set to release on May 26, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
