Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick recently spoke with CNBC, revealing new details about the delay of Grand Theft Auto 6. According to Zelnick, the game was originally planned for a November–December 2025 release window.

The executive confirmed that the delay amounts to less than six months. He expressed confidence that Rockstar Games will stick to the newly announced release date of May 26, 2026, stating that the studio typically adheres to its scheduled timelines. Zelnick emphasized that the decision to postpone the launch was made to further polish the game and ensure it delivers the best possible player experience: "Rockstar Games are trying to create the best thing anyone has ever seen in entertainment, and not just in interactive entertainment".

Interestingly, Zelnick admitted that he hasn’t personally played GTA 6, noting that he isn’t a gamer himself. Still, he regularly shares his insights on the game’s development, albeit not from a player’s perspective.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Previous reports revealed that the game’s budget has exceeded $1 billion, making it the most expensive video game project in history.
