Former PlayStation President Comments on Potential Price Hike for Games, Including GTA 6

Former PlayStation president Shuhei Yoshida has weighed in on the rumored price tag for Grand Theft Auto 6, which some sources claim could reach $100.
In a recent interview, Yoshida pointed out that rising game prices are inevitable due to inflation and the increasing complexity and cost of game development. However, he expressed doubt that Rockstar would actually set such a high price, emphasizing the need to strike a balance between development costs and what consumers are willing to pay.
Yoshida cited Clair Obscur: Expedition 33—a well-received title from a small studio priced at $50—as an example, noting that companies can't simply keep raising prices indefinitely.
As for GTA 6, Yoshida believes it could genuinely become one of the biggest projects in gaming history. To recoup the massive development costs, Rockstar might be forced to set a higher price. Despite the $100 rumors, there is speculation that this figure could refer to a bundle including both the single-player campaign and the online mode.
For reference, GTA 6 was recently delayed to May 26, 2026. To find out how the industry and fans have reacted to the news, check out our dedicated article.
