Jason Schreier on GTA 6 Delay: “No One at Rockstar Believed in a Fall 2025 Release”

Today, Rockstar Games officially postponed Grand Theft Auto 6 to May 26, 2026. Renowned journalist Jason Schreier has already commented on the news, stating that the development team never truly expected the game to launch in late 2025.

Nobody I’ve talked to at Rockstar has believed Fall 2025 was a real window for a very long time now. Too much work, not enough time, and what appears to be a real desire from management to avoid brutal crunch. GTA 6 slipping to 2026 has seemed inevitable for months if not longer.

It’s worth noting that Schreier had previously suggested the 2025 release window was unlikely. The delay has already had an impact on Take-Two Interactive’s stock price, with shares dropping sharply from $230 to below $200 shortly after the announcement.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is slated for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. There’s still no official word on a PC version.
