Greg Rice, head of PlayStation Creators and lead curator of the indie festival Day of the Devs, recently shared his thoughts on how Grand Theft Auto 6 will impact indie developers. According to Rice, smaller game creators have little to fear, as their audience differs from GTA’s.

“I think the industry is matured enough that there's space for that and for other things as well. It's gonna be a combination of 'there will be games that will be successful around GTA time because they're totally different,' but it'll also bring a lot more people back into the ecosystem,” Rice said.

He also suggested that GTA 6 could actually benefit the indie scene by expanding the player base on PlayStation and Xbox. Many of these gamers, after finishing GTA, may be inclined to explore other titles.

“I'm sure there's lots of gamers that [GTA 6 will be] the only thing they play. It'll be the opportunity to get in on the new console generation and see what else is out there. So it's definitely gonna be a big economic boost for the games industry, and will be a multiple billion dollar title, but I don't think that it's at competition with [indie games],” Rice added.

Meanwhile, the exact release date for GTA 6 remains unknown. Recently, journalists from GTA VI O’Clock speculated that the game's second trailer could drop in early April.
