The publisher of Grand Theft Auto does not think that virtual currency belongs to players
Last fall, disgruntled players filed a lawsuit against Take-Two Interactive and 2K Games, the publishers of the NBA 2K series. The Gamers claimed that the companies stole their virtual currency because it disappears forever after the servers are shut down. Today, Take-Two officially commented on the lawsuit.
As reported by journalist Stephen Totilo, the company intends to dismiss the lawsuit. Take-Two stated that the virtual currency does not belong to the player and is formally a fiction. The publisher also referred to the user license agreement, which states that microtransactions are a service that the owner may suspend at any time.
It is still unclear how Take-Two's statement will affect the outcome of the case. It is assumed that the court's response will only be known in March.
