How to Install Mods on GTA 5

5
GTA 5 remains relevant even today, although the game was released back in 2013. The reason is that nothing similar has appeared since then. But you can make the project even better with user modifications. In this guide, we’ll tell you how to install them.
How to install non-script mods on GTA 5:
- Install the standard version of GTA 5 without modifications.
- Download and install OpenIV, as well as the utilities Script Hook V, ScriptHookV.Net, and LUA Plugin.
- Create a mods directory in the game folder.
- Download the modification and copy it to the mods directory or to the root GTA 5 folder.
How to install script mods on GTA 5
The algorithm is the same as when installing regular mods, with one important difference — you need to move the files to a different folder. It depends on the extension of the modification:
- .asi and .ini files — to the root game directory.
- .dll, .cs, and .vb files — to the Grand Theft Auto 5/scripts folder;
- .lua files — to the Grand Theft Auto 5/scripts/addins/ directory.
If these folders do not exist, you need to create them.
Some modifications are installed differently. For example, using their own executable file or by manually copying them to a specific folder. We recommend first reading the mod description and only then starting the installation.
We wrote more about how to add new cars (Add-On versions) in GTA 5 in a separate guide. Another instruction is dedicated to how to replace vehicles in the game with new ones (Replace versions).
