Although GTA IV was released in 2008, it is still popular among fans. For example, many people liked realistic car physics, which was abandoned in the fifth part. However, in terms of graphics, the game has become a bit outdated over the years. You can give it a modern look with user modifications. You will learn how to install them from our guide.
How to install mods on GTA 4 using OpenIV
This method allows you to install modifications related to textures and models.
- Install the standard version of GTA 4 without modifications.
- Download and install programs such as OpenIV, ASI Loader (for scripts), and GTA IV Vehicle Mod Installer (for vehicles);
- Create a mods directory in the game folder;
- Download the modification and copy it to the mods directory or to the root GTA 4 folder.
Some mods, for example those that use ReShade technology, require installation via their own executable file. We recommend reading the mod description first, and only then starting the installation.
How to install mods on GTA 4 using IV Tweaker
This way you can activate modifications with the extensions .wdr, .wdd, .wft, and .wtd.
- Install the standard version of GTA 4 without modifications, version 1080. Download the appropriate files or use the GTA IV Downgrader program.
- Download and install IV Tweaker, as well as the ASI Loader utility.
- Download the modification and copy it to the IV Tweaker directory.
Manual installation of mods on GTA 4
- Download the archive with the mod and unpack it.
- Remember the names of the files located in this directory. These are the models you will be replacing.
- Download the SparkIV 0.6.8 program and install it.
- Select the Browse option and specify the vehicles.img file, which is located in the game folder. Its address is GTAIV\pc\models\cdimages\vehicles.img.
- In the Filter field, enter the name of the file that will be replaced using mods.
- Click on it and select Import. In the window that opens, specify the path to the file with the corresponding mod. Open it and click Rebuild.
- Close the program.
- Launch the game.
