MAZ 500 A
In the 60s of the twentieth century, the MAZ-500 was significantly superior to all domestic trucks in terms of economic efficiency.
It is worth noting that these machines had a number of disadvantages.
So, for example, the overall width was 2650 mm, that is, it exceeded the 2500 mm allowed by European standards,
because of which the cars could not be operated on international roads,
gearbox ratios were not selected optimally,
and for long-haul transportation, in addition, a more powerful engine was required.
It was with the aim of eliminating shortcomings identified during operation that Minsk designers began work on modernizing the MAZ-500 family.
Overall dimensions have been brought into compliance with European standards, gearbox ratios have been changed,
as a result, the maximum speed of the car increased from 75 to 85 km/h, the wheelbase increased by 100mm (to 3950mm),
and the carrying capacity increased to 8 tons.
The modernized flatbed truck was named MAZ-500A.
Externally, the second-generation 500s can be distinguished by a new “checkered” radiator grille.
In addition, the casing behind the cabin has disappeared. Behind the doors, at the level of the door handle, a turn signal repeater appeared.
The MAZ-500A and its modifications remained in production until 1977, when they were replaced by the new MAZ-5335 family.
