The ZIL-131V truck tractor has been produced by the Likhachev Moscow Automobile Plant since 1967 on the basis of the ZIL-131 car. Designed for towing special semi-trailers. After modernization in 1983. received the ZIL-131NV index (the main external difference is that there is no standard stand behind the cab). It should be noted that the ZIL-131NV was produced in two versions - with a "standard" frame from the ZIL-131N and with a "shortened" frame similar to the ZIL-131V. Unlike the base truck, the ZIL-131V truck tractor had a slightly smaller rear overhang due to the shorter frame length.

Седельный тягач ЗИЛ-131В выпускался Московским автозаводом имени Лихачева с 1967 г. на базе автомобиля ЗИЛ-131. Предназначен для буксировки специальных полуприцепов. После модернизации в 1983г. получил индекс ЗИЛ-131НВ (основное внешнее отличие - отсутствует стандартная стойка за кабиной). Следует отметить, что ЗИЛ-131НВ выпускался в двух вариантах - со "стандартной" рамой от ЗИЛ-131Н и с "укороченной" рамой, аналогичной ЗИЛ-131В. В отличие от базового грузовика, седельный тягач ЗИЛ-131В имел несколько меньший задний свес за счет меньшей длины рамы.
