At the time of its production, the VAZ-2101 was the most comfortable car in its class, one of the most modern and reliable domestic vehicles, which immediately made owning one a sign of wealth and prosperity. Among the most enjoyable features, car enthusiasts noted its high reliability, ease of maintenance, smooth ride, dynamics, and the comfort of the interior (including the effective operation of the heater). Objectively, the VAZ surpassed other Soviet cars in manufacturing quality, especially in interior finishing, had good dynamics and handling, required minimal maintenance for its time, and had a fairly modern appearance (for the early years of production).
На момент начала производства ВАЗ-2101 являлся самым комфортабельным в своем классе, одним из наиболее современных и надежных отечественных автомобилей, что сразу сделало обладание им признаком достатка и благополучия. Среди наиболее приятных особенностей ВАЗ-2101 автолюбители отмечали высокую неприхотливость, надежность и простоту обслуживания, плавность хода, динамику, комфортабельность салона (в том числе и хорошую работу отопителя). Объективно, ВАЗ превосходил остальные советские автомобили по культуре изготовления, и особенно — отделки салона, имел хорошую динамику и управляемость, малый для тех лет объем работ по техническому обслуживанию, достаточно современный внешний вид (для первых лет выпуска).
