"Marked by the Zone" are neither people nor mutants. Their appearance and spiritual world have changed greatly. These are, as a rule, "initiated into the secrets of the Zone." Some believe that they control all the processes of the Zone - mutants, anomalies, and even something more global. If they don't like some stalker or even a mutant, they can punish him, or vice versa, for example, help a stalker get out of the maze of anomalies and get straight to an artifact place, or lead a small blind puppy to his pack. Some hate them, while others worship them. They always help some, while others only in critical situations. They say that these are those who lived here even before the first explosion in 86, but they are no longer people, something completely different. They are some kind of mystery of the Zone. They never come into direct contact with anyone, they only flash among the ruins and trees, like ghosts. Perhaps they have telepathy, since those who met them spoke of voices in their heads that led them. No one can accurately describe their appearance, but people spoke of dark silhouettes in cloaks with some colored lights instead of eyes. As experienced stalkers say, those marked by the Zone are everywhere, they are the Zone itself.
