The diesel six-axle locomotive EMD SD40-2, produced from 1972 to 1989 by Electro-Motive Diesel, by the end of the 70s, became one of the main locomotives on US railroads. Most likely, it was this locomotive that served as the prototype for the standard San Andreas locomotive.
