The interior, floor, front and rear were built from scratch.
Declasse Merit Classic is based on the sixth generation Chevy Impala, one of the best-selling cars in the United States. Popular in the 1980s, the Merit was the base model of the full-size Declasse and was widely used (including as taxis and police cars), but production ceased in 1985. After the discontinuation, only the top models continued to be called Premier Classic and Premier Classic Brougham until 1990.
