nGLide v2.10
Program for image correction in GTA1 (and not only) on WINDOWS and MS-DOS.
nGlide is a wrapper program from 3Dfx Voodoo Glide. The program allows you to run PC games originally developed for the 3Dfx Glide API (for example, Test Drive off-road 2) without a video card. No need to install or emulate a 3Dfx Voodoo graphics card. All three versions of the API are supported: Glide 2.1 (glide.dll), Glide 2.4 (glide2x.dll), and Glide 3.0 (glide3x.dll). nGlide translates all Glide calls to Direct3D.
Despite the acceptable compatibility of GTA1 with WINDOWS7 and above, you can still encounter display lags, even if you installed a widescreen fix on the game. GTA1 does not require 3DFX technology to run on modern PCs, and yet the presence of 3DFX makes the game work more correctly.
Lags nGLide fixes in GTA1:
WINDOWS
- When you start, you constantly have to press "F11" and change the resolution, because the resolution setting is lost when you exit the game. This is typical for running the game on modern systems. nGLide will save you from this boring ritual by making the game automatically run in 1024x768 and x32bit resolution (the maximum for this game).
- Animations of the game menu suffer from high speed. nGLide will fix this lag, which is typical for running this game on modern OS WINDOWS.
- In some individual cases, the game may sag FPS. The phenomenon is not very frequent, but nevertheless, unpleasant. If you had to face it, then nGLide can slightly improve the performance of the game.
MS-DOS
- The maximum resolution of 800x600x32 will be automatically set (in the version on MS-DOS it is the maximum). That is, if you run the game through DOSbox, then the DOSbox window with the game turned on will be larger than it was.
- The MS-DOS version of the game can be run in "3DFX" mode. Of course, there is hardly a need for this, but if you are interested, then go for it.
Installation and configuration:
Installing the program is very simple. Just follow the installer's instructions. The installer of the new version will not want to install files over those files that were installed by the old version, because the program registers and installs DLL files into the system (Sistem32, SisWOW64 or other system folders depending on the version and bitness of your system). Actually, the nGLide configurator (nglide_config.exe) and the uninstaller (nglide_uninst.exe) are also located there. For example, in WINDOWS7 they are located at C:/Windows/SisWOW64.
I have attached a shortcut to the archive that refers to the nGLide Configurator. Accordingly, it will only work after installing nGLide.
The program has interesting settings. You are free to experiment with them, but there are configurations that need to be adjusted sure:
Screen resolution : Select your screen resolution. There is a wide range of resolutions in the settings (the maximum is 7680x4320)
Gamma correction : 0.8
Aspect ratio : Aspect correction (recommended for GTA1)
It is also highly recommended to install Widescreen Fix and other files to fix, since you should not rely on one nGLide.
