Expectations from various GTA games that ultimately didn't live up to expectations

In 2001, GTA 3 revolutionized the gaming industry. Moreover, the wow effect was enhanced by the fact that no one really expected anything from the project. The opposite situation may happen with the sixth part — fans are hoping to see a grand breakthrough. If it does not happen, they risk being disappointed.
In this article, we will note the gameplay features and other elements of various parts of GTA that journalists talked about, but they never appeared in the games themselves.
Sources — Playstation 2 Magazine UK (January 2001), Preview GTA: Vice City from Gamespot, Preview GTA: San Andreas from Gamespot, ELECTRONIC GAMING MONTHLY (March 2008), GAMES MASTER (February 2008), PLAY (July 2008) and Game Informer (December 2012).
GTA 3
This game is the only 3D part of the series that does not have motorcycles. The developers planned to add them, but simply did not have time. Moreover, in the virtual newspaper Liberty Tree, the lack of bikes was explained by problems in the city.
Initially, ferries were supposed to run between the individual areas of the city. This was mentioned in the GTA 3 preview for Playstation 2 Magazine UK. However, in the end, this idea was abandoned. They only appeared in Liberty City Stories, which was released in 2005 on PSP. In addition to ferries, they wanted to make a separate port in the style of Hoboken. We saw it in the fourth GTA.
Among the civilians, it was planned to add dog owners who would walk their dogs on the street. As in the case of motorcycles, their absence was explained in the newspaper — homeless people attacked animals in order to cook them on a fire and eat them. Therefore, a ban on such walks was issued.
From GTA: London, such characters as Bubba and the Marcus brothers were supposed to return, and from the second Grand Theft Auto — such criminal organizations as the Zaibatsu Corporation, rednecks and the Russian mafia. But in the final version of the game, we saw completely different bandits on the streets of Liberty City. Only one criminal clan is in GTA 2 and the third part — Japanese thugs from the yakuza.
GTA: Vice City
Vice City was developed as an add-on to GTA 3. That's how it was presented at the initial stage. Later, the game began to be positioned as a full-fledged new part of the series.
Initially, it was planned that the entire Vice City would be available to players from the very beginning of the game. They decided to abandon this idea — at first, the mainland part of the city and small islands near it are closed to visitors due to bad weather.
Pastor Richards was supposed to be one of the important characters in the plot of GTA: Vice City. But in the end, his role was reduced to appearing in the mission "The Party" and speaking on the radio.
GTA: San Andreas
According to Gamespot, drivers in San Andreas were supposed to resist when CJ tried to steal their car. So to change the vehicle, you had to get into a fight or threaten with a gun. In the final version of the game, the main character beats the potential victim himself and calmly takes his car.
It was supposed that during fights you could block enemy attacks. There is nothing like that in the game itself.
They promised really smart and strong police officers, who would be hard to get away from. In fact, the cops from GTA 3 remained the most dangerous in the series.
GTA 4
Liberty City was supposed to be surrounded by an open world the size of New York State, where there would be small settlements. This idea was implemented only in the fifth part of GTA.
Hits on Niko were supposed to leave scars on his body, and explosions could destroy part of the city forever. Of course, it is a big question whether it was really possible to implement something like this on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but we never saw it in any case.
With the help of a mobile phone, we were supposed to make deals and set up ambushes. And it was also assumed that you could listen to music on the street if you turn it on your phone. However, in the end, this option was abandoned.
GTA 5
The Game Informer preview claimed that the world of the fifth GTA will be larger than in the fourthty, San Andreas and Red Dead Redemption combined. In reality, Los Santos and its environs from Grand Theft Auto 5 turned out to be much smaller. Moreover, the city does not take up much territory compared to the forests and deserts that stretch out next to it.
