Game mechanics and gameplay features we want to see in GTA 6

GTA 6 will certainly offer us some interesting new features not seen in the series before. Games from other companies have interesting mechanics that could complement the core concept of Grand Theft Auto, making it better and more diverse. We'll discuss these in this article.

Combat Car Tuning

In GTA 5, you can improve your car's protection with armor and bulletproof tires. It would be great to go further, for example, offering the option of installing integrated weapons, like in Cyberpunk 2077 version 2.0. This opens up new possibilities for completing missions. A pursuit of another traitor will end much faster if a missile or a burst of heavy machine gun fire hits their car.

Changing clothes to infiltrate a secure area

In Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation, the main character, Aveline, could change clothes, which directly affected her abilities. For example, in a noblewoman's dress, she could easily pass by guards without arousing suspicion. A mechanic like this would be great when playing as Lucia. You don't have to deal with bandits by force—you can seduce one of them and ask him to let you through. It also brings to mind the scene in Heavy Rain where Madison Paige's seductive dance attracted the attention of a crime boss, and he himself wanted to get to know her better.

Managing City Infrastructure

The ability to hack traffic lights, raise bridges, close gates behind you, and other similar tricks were a hallmark of the first Watch Dogs. And these mechanics fit well with the gameplay of GTA 6. Chasing a target at high speed or, conversely, evading pursuit will feel different if you have Vice City's infrastructure at your disposal.

Dancing in Nightclubs

One user started a fake story about the ability to twerk in GTA 6. Interestingly, Google believed it and presented the information as true. But the addition of dancing mechanics is a truly interesting feature. Something similar already existed in San Andreas, but here, dancing in nightclubs will be much cooler, since we'll be playing as a beautiful girl.

Construction of Buildings

Building your own house by the sea seems like a good investment. It would be great if players could choose the size of the building, the layout of the rooms, and the interior design. A virtual home will feel like home if you've invested a lot of effort and money into it, even if it's virtual.

Shooting Your Own Movie

In Vice City and GTA 5, the main characters already worked in the film business. However, in those games, we carried out assignments that were only tangentially related to filming. What if we added the ability to influence the plot and staging of individual scenes in a future film? Of course, we don't expect the mechanics to be as sophisticated as The Movies, but choosing actors and sets, as well as changing the script, seems like an interesting idea.

Media reports that directly depend on our actions

In Hitman: Blood Money, after completing each mission, we were shown articles in local newspapers. Their text reflected the progression of the mission—journalists could write about an accident or report on a brutal killer, featuring Agent 47 himself. In GTA 6, you can go further and create video reports based on the actions of the main characters.

Expanded communication options with characters

We have no doubt that GTA VI will feature a fully functional in-game internet connection. However, we'd like to see the developers add more ways to interact with characters via social media. Even messages sent to a smartphone can create the illusion of talking to a real person. At a minimum, we'd like to be able to choose response options and see the consequences of our words. Ideally, we'd like to have full-fledged communication, like with ChatGPT.

Kidnapping mechanics

We saw something similar in the Red Dead Redemption series, when you had to deliver a person alive. In GTA 6, kidnapping should be done not with a lasso, but with more modern tools, such as stun guns and handcuffs. For variety, you can show the victim trying to escape or tugging at the steering wheel, as in the fourth game.

Realistically destructible environments

I'd like to see the consequences of aggressive actions in The time of another shootout involving grenade launchers and heavy equipment. Ideally, city services should carry out complex repairs not in a single day, but over the course of a couple of weeks, so we can see how buildings gradually recover from the explosions.

Reputation

Red Dead Redemption featured an honor system. It can also be carried over to GTA 6. For example, shopkeepers won't sell you goods if you came in yesterday and threatened them with a gun. In this case, they'll immediately call the police. And if you defended them from brazen racketeers, the shopkeeper will give you a discount or a gift.

Flashbacks from the Past

In the trailers, Rockstar is slightly flirting with audiences who experienced the Vice City era. So it would be great to show episodes from the past. For example, instead of hearing the story of one of the older characters, we could see the events of the 80s through his eyes. A similar approach was used in Cyberpunk 2077 during the gameplay as Johnny Silverhand. Mafia 2 and Driver: Parallel Lines, which took place in two eras, are also worth mentioning.

Parkour

Full-fledged parkour can only be added to the latest GTA games through mods. But if such a mechanic is included in the game from the start, it will open up new ways to complete missions. For example, you could enter a building through a window, steal something, and then leave the apartment the same way.

Advanced Mechanics of Hand-to-Hand Combat

In the GTA series, fistfights have always been strictly optional—almost any issue can be resolved with a firearm. However, no one is stopping us from creating mission conditions in which close combat is the only way to achieve your goal. For example, by confiscating all weapons after a search. I'd like to see quality hand-to-hand combat mechanics, with counterattacks, simple combos, and active use of the environment. The closest analogy is Sleeping Dogs.

Decorating the City for the Holidays

If one of the game's episodes takes place around Halloween or Christmas, it would be great to see the city transform – with lights hanging on buildings, people appearing in themed costumes, and so on. We could also take advantage of the situation. For example, we could don a creepy Santa Claus mask or beard and then enter a jewelry store. At first, the employees won't react to your appearance, despite you hiding your face from cameras and witnesses.
