Users have noticed an interesting point: Rockstar representatives have patented a number of solutions that can be used in future projects of the company. First of all, we are talking about the sixth part of the GTA series. In this article, we have analyzed the most interesting of them and presented how they can be implemented in the format of a video game.
It is important to note that the patent does not guarantee that such mechanics will appear in the near future. However, work on these areas has clearly been underway for some time. It is possible that we will see them later, for example, in Red Dead Redemption 3.
Advanced animations and locomotion technology (locomotion), patents US11951384B2, US11620781B1 and US10395410B2
These three patents are related to animation, so we have combined them into one section. US11951384B2 suggests that motion capture will be used to demonstrate realistic character behavior, which will be adjusted using artificial intelligence. This will expand the number of possible NPC actions.
Patent US11620781B1 provides a new system of character movement based on individual command blocks. They will depend on what is happening around the characters. Thanks to this, people should move more realistically. For example, NPCs will be able to walk in a crouch, cover their heads with a gun and simultaneously shoot at enemies. At the same time, the right side of the body is slightly extended forward, because the character fires from this side.
The most interesting thing is how this technology will play out unpredictable situations, for example, when a shootout begins on the dance floor.
At the same time, patent US10395410B2 ensures that the animations will remain smooth. The movements will depend not only on what is happening around, but also on the initial pose of the character.
Improved liquid simulation system, patent US10685152B2
A special liquid simulation technology will make interaction with water especially realistic. We will see a reliable display of blood, sweat and raindrops. It is also worth noting the chases on boats and motorboats with splashes.
Reliable behavior of drivers and pedestrians, patent US11684855B2
This technology ensures that pedestrians and drivers of vehicles comply with traffic rules. Apparently, we are not talking about simple driving only on green lights, but also about more complex moments, for example, lane changes and lane changes for turns.

Each of these patents individually will not revolutionize the gaming industry. However, the wow effect may occur if Rockstar actually implements all the declared possibilities in practice. There is nothing like this in other games and it is not expected. For example, Mafia: The Old Country will turn out to be a linear adventure, without a full-fledged open world.
