On March 4, 2025, a major update was released for the PC version of GTA 5. Like all patches, it is distributed completely free of charge to all owners of a licensed copy of the game. It includes content that was previously added to the game on current-generation consoles (PS5 and Xbox Series). In addition, Rockstar Games has improved graphics and increased performance. There are also some exclusive innovations. In this article, we will analyze all the features of the updated version of the fifth Grand Theft Auto.

Technical Features

It is important to note that the system requirements of GTA 5 have remained virtually unchanged since the release of the Enhanced version. If you do not have the opportunity to use the latest video card technologies, the game simply will not resort to them so as not to overload your computer.

Graphical improvements

RTX technologies were introduced in GTA 5. Thanks to them, realistic shadows, global illumination and advanced reflections on transport and building glass appeared. And DLSS 3 and AMD FSR 3 artificial scaling technologies allowed to increase the frame rate without losing image quality.

Additionally, we’d like to remind you that we previously reported on the updated GTA 5 was compared to the PS3 version and how ray tracing transformed the graphics in the PC version. This allows us to see how the game has evolved over the past 12 years.

Support for 4K textures, as well as HDR and Dolby Vision, was added. Thanks to this, contrast and color rendering improved. You can also now play on ultra-wide monitors with a resolution of 21:9 and 32:9.

Performance and optimization

First of all, I would like to note the DirectStorage technology, which optimized downloads on SSD drives. They became several times faster. Interestingly, this problem was fixed thanks to an enthusiast who proposed his solution back in 2021. Rockstar used his method and sent the enthusiast a cash reward.

Support for DualSence controllers, which are used on the PlayStation 5, has appeared. They have good vibration motors and trigger resistance.

The developers did not ignore the sound either. The updated version now supports Dolby Atmos technology. Now it is easier to navigate the game world.

Exclusive Racing Content in GTA Online

With the release of the Enhanced version, it became possible to use the Hao’s Special Works garage in the Los Santos Auto Club. Unique tuning is available for 20 specific cars. The update also adds five new cars and racing events that were not in the original version.

New missions in GTA Online

In the updated edition of GTA 5, daily missions in online mode have become an important part of the gameplay. In the Legacy version, they were accessed through a small interactive menu, which went unnoticed by many players and, as a result, was uninteresting to the average user. Rockstar has reworked this feature and moved the missions to the main game menu. Now, you can track your Online career progress—from the Lowriders update to The Doomsday Heist. If you're only interested in rewards, you can simply view them without focusing on overall progress. The rewards include various items, ranging from character customization options to rare vehicles.

You can also note special challenges that are associated with photographing animals. Now you will meet them in GTA Online. Previously, you could only see cats, dogs and wild animals in single player mode.

GTA+ Subscription Service

GTA+ is a subscription service that allows players to purchase a monthly membership to receive exclusive items. It offers monthly bonuses, including cash payouts, as well as discounts on cars, properties, and other in-game items. Additionally, players gain access to a unique Vinewood Club garage. If you run in-game businesses, GTA+ provides remote supply deliveries, making gameplay significantly more convenient.

***

The main advantage of the updated PC version of Grand Theft Auto 5 is that the game has become more modern. You shouldn't expect anything supernatural from Enhanced, because this isn't a new project or even a remaster. However, the improved graphics and optimization may be a reason to replay the story mode again or return to GTA Online.
