GTA screen adaptation? A movie with the name Grand Theft Auto - tell us what it is
GTA opened up a new genre. Insanity and a level of freedom unseen until then was new to players. But what if Rockstar Games itself was inspired by someone else's work, which saw the light long before the first part of the legendary series? Not so long ago, we accidentally stumbled upon a movie, the title of which explicitly hints at the connection of the projects. "The Great Auto Robbery" or simply Grand Theft Auto in English was released in 1977. Despite the venerable age, the picture is still available for viewing, which we took advantage of. Surprisingly, but the movie is much more like the game than it may seem at first glance. In this article we will tell you all the details.
Road madness
The story is simple. A young couple — Nancy and Ron — tell the girl's parents about their relationship. But there's a problem. The heroine is "promised" to another — a goofy-looking guy who has been personally endorsed by her wealthy father. The Shakespearean drama quickly gathers momentum when the angry girl steals her father's Rolls-Royce. Together with her newfound lover, she wants to get to Las Vegas and legitimize the relationship against the wishes of her family.
Her father promises $25,000 on the radio to anyone who brings Nancy home. The failed fiancé joins the chase. He doesn't want the money, just the bride. However, the guy has a caricatured and very rich mother, who also promises 25 thousand, but already for the return of her dear son. So starts a chain of events, where the race for a solid kushchem involves a variety of participants.
If you have played at least one GTA, the general level of madness is instantly recognizable. Each of the characters is a simple, but at the same time memorable image, where certain traits are elevated to an absolute. That said, no one bothers with character reveals or long dialogues. You can learn about the characters mainly through actions. The participants of the chase constantly joke and get into absurd situations, which they themselves create.
The story itself doesn't stretch the main plot of the game, but it could definitely become one of the optional quests. Moreover, the new part will also be devoted to the story of two lovers. In addition to the immediate characters, we will get acquainted with a corrupt priest, two car mechanics, a redneck with dynamite, a radio host and a whole group of policemen.
Unfortunately, it is hardly possible to draw any obvious parallels with the games. However, some scenes are easy to imagine in gameplay. An off-road race with a high-speed car, a drive through a house, an arena where drivers compete for survival, and so on.

Despite the general naiveté, there's no doubt that Rockstar Games has definitely seen the picture. And while the game is distinctive in many ways, the commonalities are apparent. All fans of reckless chases and GTA atmosphere will definitely enjoy the movie.
