How To Drift in GTA Online — Tips, Track and Vehicles
Drifting has always been a part of GTA. You've probably seen popular GTA San Andreas drifting videos from the early 2010s.
Drift fans didn't disappear with the release of GTA 5, though they had to deal with several difficulties, especially with vehicle physics that could only remotely simulate drifting.
That all changed with the release of Los Santos Tuners DLC. This article will explain how this DLC changed the drifting in GTA and how to learn how to perform a controlled drift in GTA Online.
How Los Santos Tuners update changed drifting in GTA Online
Los Santos Tuners DLC was released in GTA Online in the summer of 2021. The update was received very warmly by the fans of driving. The DLC added street racing to GTA Online, the Los Santos Car Meet and a new tuner car class.
But there was one more, barely noticeable thing that made drifting in GTA 5 possible — Low Grip Tires. You can install them in the workshop of the LC Car Meet. Low Grip Tires reduce the traction of the wheels and your car is easier to drift.
Now players don't have to do any questionable vehicle manipulation to drift.
How to drift in GTA Online
Here you will find step-by-step instructions on how to get into controlled drifting in GTA Online.
Choose your vehicle. You can drift with almost any vehicle in the game. Make sure to put Low Grip Tires on your vehicle. This can only be done in the LS Car Meet.
- Accelerate slightly (RT / R2 / W) before entering a corner;
- When entering a corner, apply the handbrake (RB / R1 / Spacebar). Never brake with the LT / L2 / S keys;
- Correct the rear of your car while drifting. You should steer it in the opposite direction to your slide;
- It's easiest to do this on the gamepad with sticks, but with a little practice you can easily pull it all off on the keyboard;
- Stop handbraking to get out of the slide.

Tips for beginners
- Experiment with your car modifications: some engine and brake upgrades, as well as armouring, can make it difficult to have a good controlled drift.
- Don't start with drifting in Los Santos. It's best to take the open areas, or special maps created by players. The LS Сar Meet test track is a great place to drift.
