Former Rockstar Developer Speculates When GTA 6 PC Version Will Be Released

Former Rockstar Games CTO Obbe Vermeij has given his guess about the release date of GTA 6 PC version. According to him, the release will take place no earlier than 2027 – and here’s why.

As he explained on social media, due to technical issues, releasing the game simultaneously on PC and consoles would be a risky undertaking. In addition, developing a PC version is not that easy and usually faces a lot of specific problems.

A staggered release has the advantage that the team can focus on one release at a time. The PC release is quite different with mouse controls, extra gameplay features and a range of hardware. It also means the testers’ workload is spread out. I would think doing a simultaneous release is also risky. The pc version tends to have a bunch of technical issues because of all the different configurations (memory, processor, gfx card). These issues may give the game a reputation for being buggy. This would probably taint the console version even if that’s clean.

Obbe Vermeij himself hopes that Rockstar won’t wait 18 months to release the game on PC, as was the case with GTA 5. However, he expects the game to be released only in 2027.

Earlier, new details of the GTA 6 leak appeared - it turned out that Rockstar employees fell for a hacker’s phishing email.
