7 things in which GTA 4 wins over GTA 5 — and vice versa
Every time developers promise a new part of their favorite game, players are waiting for something innovative — and often they get it. Cool graphics, new gameplay features — we already know all this. But does the rule "new is not always good" work? In this article, we compared a few moments from GTA 4 and GTA 5 to find out what was really improved in the new part, and what should have been left as before.
Jumping out of the car
As you can see, in both games, if you jump out of the car at high speed, the player will get the expected result — he will be heavily bounced off the road and the character will receive severe damage. Just in GTA 4 you will look like a rag doll, as if friction and weight don't mean anything to you at all. In GTA 5, on the contrary, although it will bounce the character off a bit, it will still feel like you are playing for a living person.
At the same time, if you crash into something at high speed, then in GTA 4 Niko will quite realistically fly out of the car through the windshield, while in GTA 5 the selected character will remain sitting in place — as if tightly glued.
The ability to climb anywhere
In GTA 4, nothing prevents the player from climbing the eaves on the roofs, climbing over the ledges and jumping from one obstacle to another. At the same time, GTA 5 has cut this parkour aspect so that now even just jumping from point "A" to point "B" is quite a difficult task, most likely, leading to death.
Landing on the water
Have you often piloted a helicopter closer to the water? If not, then it makes sense to try, because in both games there is a reaction. If in GTA 5 it's just white streaks simulating splashes, then in GTA IV it's quite a natural crater that forms because of a powerful gust of air. It’s very interesting, as visually the water itself looks better, of course, in GTA 5.
Disabling the helicopter
This is where GTA 5 definitely wins in its realism. The fact is that in GTA 4, if you somehow destroy a helicopter’s blades or tail in the air (for example, you crash into a building), then the helicopter will just fall — and that's it.
In GTA 5, there is a completely predictable explosion awaiting you, lethal for your character.
Reaction to the weather
When it rains, Niko reacts quite vividly: shakes himself off, twitches his limbs, as if shivering from the cold, and steam comes out of his mouth. But Franklin doesn’t pay attention to the rain in any case, as for the rest of the characters.
Entrance to the public places
In GTA 4, you have almost unlimited access to most buildings and public places. Do you want to go to the hospital? Yes, please! Or maybe to a diner? No question! The player has a very wide range of locations to visit. In GTA 5, unfortunately, this mechanic was abandoned, so the players, coming to the door of the famous Cluckin' Bell restaurant, stumble only on blurred textures.
Going Nowhere
For example, if you want to force Michael to run into a wall, then most likely you will not succeed — he will stop right in front of it and want to turn. The same goes for any obstacles. In front of the car, the heroes of GTA 5 will either stop or want to jump over it quite neatly. At the same time, Niko will continue to run quite calmly, as if a good treadmill is set into the asphalt. Cars in this case are also not an obstacle for him, even though he can also jump over them.
Of course, it is impossible to say surely that one game is superior to the other in everything. Each has its own weak and strong points, but many points in comparison force you to ask the obvious question — "Maybe it wasn't worth changing anything?" Anyway, both GTAs are good in their own way — you can't argue with that for sure.
