The team at Digital Foundry has released a new video highlighting a recent fan-made port of Grand Theft Auto 3 for the SEGA Dreamcast. While the game was never officially released on sixth-generation consoles, enthusiasts managed to adapt it for the platform.

The video showcases current gameplay and comparisons with the PlayStation 2 version. Due to system limitations, the Dreamcast version suffers from compressed textures and various artifacts. Additionally, the frame rate is capped at 15 FPS.

Despite these challenges, Digital Foundry expressed admiration for the fan-made port. The project is already close to a playable state, and many graphical features that one wouldn’t expect on the Dreamcast are functioning.

One Digital Foundry expert remarked that early-2000s Rockstar likely wouldn’t have been able to achieve such a feat.

"These guys are superhardcore and have managed to achieve what really does feel like a miracle," the specialist concluded.

The Grand Theft Auto 3 port for SEGA Dreamcast is currently in its alpha stage. According to the developers, the project will receive many patches and improvements in the future.
