1972 Chevrolet El Camino
The El Camino's first appearance was in the 1959 Chevrolet lineup, two years after the Ford Ranchero was released. Like the Ford Ranchero, Chevrolet's El Camino was based on a flexible platform. The El Camino was available in any size of ground clearance and trim, including those found in the Chevrolet Impala. More Ford Ranchero models were sold than El Caminos, although Chevrolet pickup trucks rolled off the factory line in their first year of production at 22,246. The more conservative (suitably less curved) El Camino of 1960 sold even worse, with 14,163 sold in just 12 months. Based on these results, General Motors decided to stop producing cars of this brand. Thus, the first generation Chevrolet El Camino has only 36,409 cars, but they are still found to this day, and often not in stock form.
