The TEP80 diesel locomotive is an experimental passenger diesel locomotive produced in the USSR from 1988 to 1989 at the Kolomna Diesel Locomotive Plant. A total of 2 diesel locomotives of this series were built. The TEP80-0002 locomotive is considered the world speed record holder among diesel locomotives. The record was set by Alexander Vasilievich Mankevich, a machinist, on the Shluz-Doroshikha section of the St. Petersburg-Moscow line on October 5, 1993 and is 271 km/h, a record of which can be seen on the body of a diesel locomotive, which is currently in the museum of railway transport at the former Varshavsky railway station in St. Petersburg. The second locomotive, also with a commemorative inscription, is in the Novosibirsk Museum of Railway Engineering.
