The captain of the Ministry of State Security of the GDR Stefan Hofmann flees to the United States after the fall of the Berlin Wall to his old acquaintances - the dissident Strasse and his son Richard in San Francisco, in the hope of a new life. Stefan comes up with a new biography for himself and Richard finds a place for him in one of the city's gangs. However, Hofmann comes to the attention of the FBI and is forced to do what he did before - to protect the state, which has become his new home, professionally using the methods of the Stasi.

Капитан Министерства Государственной Безопасности ГДР Штефан Хофманн бежит в США после падения Берлинской Стены к своим давним знакомым - диссиденту Штрассе и его сыну Рихарду в Сан-Франциско, в надежде на новую жизнь. Штефан придумывает себе новую биографию и Рихард находит для него место в одной из банд города. Однако, Хофманн попадает в поле зрения ФБР и вынужден заниматься тем, чем он занимался раньше - защищать государство, которое стало для него новым домом, профессионально используя методы работы Штази.
