Digital Foundry published analyzed GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas from GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. A thorough test showed a lot of technical flaws and issues in remasters. The experts compared the updated versions with the original games on PlayStation 2, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
The remasters are upscaled to 4K both on PS5 and Xbox Series X and work only in 1800p. Even in performance modes there are FPS drops, and frames loss is a problem for all remasters. Digital Foundry found GTA: Vice City more polished than others.

Some DF points:

  • Remasters are looking better than original games when there is no characters in it. But the original vision was lost.
  • San Andreas is missing yellow filter, and Vice City's neon is less visible;
  • Remasters are full of strange gloss;
  • New NPC looks like clay and new models are using old animations. Vice City animations were made to work with low-poly assets;
  • San Andreas lost it's atmosphere because of draw distance and no fog. It made the world look small and unrealistic;
  • Textures were upscaled and they weren't checked twice. There a lot of errors in ads..
