Digital Foundry published analyzed GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas from GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. A thorough test showed a lot of technical flaws and issues in remasters. The experts compared the updated versions with the original games on PlayStation 2, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
The remasters are upscaled to 4K both on PS5 and Xbox Series X and work only in 1800p. Even in performance modes there are FPS drops, and frames loss is a problem for all remasters. Digital Foundry found GTA: Vice City more polished than others.
Some DF points:
Remasters are looking better than original games when there
is no characters in it. But the original vision was lost.
San Andreas is missing yellow filter, and Vice City's neon is
less visible;
Remasters are full of strange gloss;
New NPC looks like clay and new models are using old
animations. Vice City animations were made to work with low-poly
assets;
San Andreas lost it's atmosphere because of draw distance and
no fog. It made the world look small and unrealistic;
Textures were upscaled and they weren't checked twice. There
a lot of errors in ads..
