Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition

Meet the updated Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. In 2021, Grove Street Games released remasters of the classic GTA — Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition.

Each of the three games received numerous improvements of various kinds, including a new lighting system and enhanced detail, high-resolution textures, increased draw distance, control and aiming in the style of Grand Theft Auto V, and much more. However, the remasters were criticized for overly high system requirements, a cartoonish look, and bugs, bugs, and more bugs (to be fair, by the time you read this article, they may have already been fixed. Or maybe not).

On this page, you will learn all the details about the updated GTA: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition: system requirements, cheats, guides, mods, and much more. Bookmark this page — it will be updated as new information becomes available.

Minimum System Requirements for The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition

  • Operating System: Windows 10
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-2700K or AMD FX-6300
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • HDD: 45 GB of hard disk space
  • Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 or AMD Radeon R9 280 with 2 GB of memory

Recommended System Requirements for The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition

  • Operating System: Windows 10
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-6600K or AMD Ryzen 5 2600
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • HDD: 45 GB of hard disk space
  • Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 or AMD Radeon RX 570 with 4 GB of memory

Gameplay Enhancements

In Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition, the controls have been completely revamped. The aiming system was taken from GTA 5. Additionally:

  • Shootouts have been reworked;
  • New weapon and radio station selectors have been added (as in GTA 5);
  • Minimaps have been updated with new enhanced navigation, allowing players to set their own routes;

Visual Improvements

Now all games run on a new engine — Unreal Engine, which allows the trilogy's graphical potential to be fully realized.

The games have received a new lighting system with enhanced contrast and reflection effects; more realistic weather effects; new vegetation and high draw distance. Additionally, textures of the environment, weapons, vehicles, and roads are presented in higher resolution.

Criticism

Many players were dissatisfied with the quality of the work done. Despite the somewhat unrealistic graphics, the trilogy's system requirements are similar to those of Rockstar Games' western, Red Dead Redemption 2.

Another issue with The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition is censorship. It is not yet known how significantly the game was changed compared to the original. However, players noticed censorship in the first trailer — the Confederate flag was removed from the shirt of a secondary character in the Vice City remaster.

At launch, the game had quite a few bugs, and the reputation of Grove Street Games (formerly War Drum Studios, which developed the mobile versions of the trilogy) is not the best.

Nevertheless, a day-one patch was released for the game even before its full release. This means we may see a polished trilogy sometime after its release. We can only wait and hope, as the classic games are no longer available for purchase.
