Actor Vladimir Mashkov on why he didn't voice Nico in GTA 4

Vladimir Mashkov (Владимир Машков), popular Russian actor, gave an interview on YouTube channel of Nadezhda Strelec (Надежда Стрелец). He was asked about Grand Theft Auto IV and his decision not to get involved in a popular video game.
Mashkov remembered that Nico was inspired by Serbian sniper from the action movie Behind Enemy Lines by director John Moore. He played a role of a grumpy East European soldier and Rockstar Games liked the character.
Mashkov told that he was asked to voice Niko Bellic, but he declined. The actor wasn't into games at that time so he wasn't aware on how big GTA is. Also the developer hid a lot of details since GTA 4 was deep in development. Mashkov also was actively working back in Moscow and Rockstar Games asked him to fly to US.
The actor acknowledged that GTA is a big name in video games. He even knows that GTA 4 was in Guinness World Records.
