Collecting their weapons at the metal detector at the golf club I think many people wondered — where the hell did my sniper rifle go? Many people thought that the metal detector is simply not able to return this type of weapon, but it is not so: the rifle pickup gets created, but where we can't even see it from — inside the building.

Having studied the issue a bit, I came to the conclusion that the erroneous coordinates of the pickup are not accidental — if there were supposed to be three pickups in the third row, the third one would be located exactly where the sniper rifle was mistakenly placed. But, as we already know, three rows are unacceptable in this case, and based on the logic of the pickup placement (snake of rows with 2 pickups in each), we can unmistakably determine that the sniper rifle pickup should be placed in the next row right after the heavy weapon pickup.

Having understood the above and determined all the necessary coordinates, the only thing left to do was to implement the fix in practice, and I didn't have to reinvent the wheel here: back in 2017, spaceeinstein made a script that finds a Havana outfit pickup using the coordinates in memory and, if necessary, moves it to the correct coordinates by writing new values into memory. The source code of the script published by spaceeinstein turned out to be very useful: all I had to do was to write the correct coordinates for the sniper rifle pickup and slightly change the method of pickup type detection. I would like to thank spaceeinstein for both the script and the published source code — this fix was made possible thanks to him.

Features of the fix:

  • No pickups are deleted or created — the script only moves the sniper rifle pickup, provided it has already been created by the game;
  • Arithmetic sequence is clearly visible in the coordinates of metal detector pickups, so the sniper rifle pickup is moved not "by eye", but exactly where it belongs;
  • Tested on versions 1.0 and 1.1 of the game.
  • Installation: move the 'sniperpickupfix.cs' file to the CLEO folder in your game folder (requires CLEO installed, of course).
