The pistol was adopted by the Wehrmacht in 1938 under the name P38 (German: Pistole 38). It was produced not only on the territory of the Third Reich, but also on the territory of Belgium and occupied Czechoslovakia. Walter P38 was also popular with the soldiers of the Red Army and the allies as a captured weapon and as a melee weapon.
