BelAZ-540 is a basic dump truck with a load capacity of 27-32 tons. In 1965, at the international exhibition in Leipzig, he was awarded the Gold Medal. It was the first Soviet truck with hydropneumatic wheel suspension, integrated power steering and body lift hydraulic systems. BelAZ-540 had unconventional proportions for a truck and needed a very thoughtful design. Along with the designers, the great merit here is the artist V. Kobylinsky, who successfully solved the complex and controversial task of the external design of the machine. The generalized volumes of the car's elements are in harmony with the large diameter wheels. BelAZ-540 tests were launched in 1962, and mass production began at the end of 1965.
