Minibus BAZ-2215 ("Dolphin") was first introduced in May 2003 in Kiev at the SIA'2003 auto show. The need for such a car has matured long ago, because since the late 90s in Ukraine, fixed-route taxis have been widely developed, which were mainly used by Russian Gazelle minibuses, which were not originally intended for work on city routes. The first BAZ-2215 cars were assembled at the Borispol Automobile Plant, but the production capacity of this enterprise, where BAZ-A079 "Etalon" buses were already being produced by that time, was not enough to produce a new model. Therefore, in August 2003, on the basis of the Chernigovavtodetal enterprise, the Chernihiv Automobile Plant was created, where in September of the same year the production of BAZ-2215 minibuses began. For some time, cars were assembled at two factories at the same time, but now their production is carried out only in Chernihiv.
