Major Degtyarev is the protagonist of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat. Alexander Alexandrovich Degtyarev was born in Pripyat in June 1978, but was forced to evacuate and leave his hometown at the age of seven due to the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. After the Second Explosion, he returned to the Zone again at the call of his soul, gaining considerable experience in stalking, which later helped him become an employee of the SBU undercover. After the failure of Operation Farvater, which aimed to re-seize the Chernobyl nuclear power plant under military control after the failure of Operation Monolith, Degtyarev was sent to the Zone to find out the reasons for the failure of the operation. The major was sent to the Zone undercover. Unfortunately, communication with the center was lost, and the major has to act alone. During his stay in the Zone, the major has a clearly defined task: to find and inspect the crashed helicopters and the disappearance of their crews. At the end of the game, he is awarded the rank of colonel out of turn. After that, he refuses the staff position offered to him and goes to the Zone as a permanent observer from the SBU.
