The Audi R8 is a mid-engined four-wheel drive sports car produced by the German automaker Audi since 2007. First presented in 2006 at the Paris Motor Show.
The R8, like a number of other models of the Audi automaker, is produced exclusively at the quattro GmbH plant, a subsidiary of Audi AG, which, in turn, is part of the Volkswagen AG concern. The company is based in Neckarsulm near Stuttgart. The production halls are located on the site of the defunct NSU Motorenwerke AG plant, famous for the world championship in the application of a valveless rotary engine in the 1970s.
The Audi R8 is equipped as standard with a 4.2-liter V8 engine using proprietary FSI technology, which produces a maximum power of 420 horsepower. This allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. The top speed of the supercar is electronically limited to 301 km/h for safety reasons.
