Fans of Red Dead Redemption 2 have uncovered a strange new mystery that went unnoticed for nearly seven years. In the Heartlands region, players spotted an unusual spider symbol carved into a telegraph pole.

Interestingly, when the symbol is overlaid onto the in-game map, it reveals eight telegraph poles arranged in a precise pattern. Each of them is marked with a spider web and a feather attached to it. When players shoot the feathers, they fall off, confirming that the objects are interactive. Following these clues led investigators to a tree wrapped in a massive spider web, bearing the letter “N” and a drawing of a telegraph pole. Further exploration revealed a hidden message directing players to move to another pole and count five more steps.

The final known clue so far points to a guitar symbol and the letters “NW”, which has led players to Fort Wallace.

Notably, this Easter egg has existed since the game’s original release and was not added in later updates — a theory confirmed by players running the disc version of the game on an earlier build. As a result, this multi-layered mystery involving spider webs, feathers, and cryptic symbols managed to remain hidden for seven years, despite the Red Dead Redemption community’s famously thorough exploration of the game world.

Back in November, a major interview with Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser was published, in which he shared several insights into the long and complex development of Red Dead Redemption 2.
